I am living in Switzerland, but got a call from this number shortly after I went across the border to Germany and got the roaming information sent to my cell phone from the German partner phone company. Could be that this is how they get hold of phone numbers. Lucky I missed it :o)
And about the green card lottery, if anyone is interested, register on the webpage of the US Embassy in your country of residence and DO NOT pay for a green card lottery !!!!

I too got a call from this number a few hours ago..9:00pm in .Japan
I didn't answer because I don't answer any unknown numbers.
Well I'm glad I got susupecious and searched it! I've blocked the number now. guess I have to freeze my credit card now...
For the record, I found Usafis in hotmail. guess I'd better report to them as well...

Got a call also. First one I ignored cause I usually don't answer numbers I don't know. Second one I answered just to see who it was. A lady told me I entered my name back in '04 in a green card drawing and I was a lucky winner. She wanted to know if I was planning to come to the US still. I told her not in the near future and she said "understood" and hung up.
Her last name was Davis.
No calls since then.

It IS a scam! Do NOT give them any information. If you can, report them to your local phishing/scam protection office (in US, Attorney General offices are a good source).
My boyfriend (in Spain) spoke to a women in Spanish with a Mexican accent. Finally he switched to English and asked why she keeps calling and begged her to stop. She was angry and said he provided his phone number. Can't figure out how they got his number in Spain and where they are located. Surely this must be illegal. I am contacting my state's Attorney General.
Anyone really wanting to move to the USA, only trust ".GOV" websites. Here is the legitimate website to apply for LEGAL residency in the US:

USAFIS is a scam to help you with unnecessary paperwork and is using several phone numbers, just google "800notes usafis" The real USA Diversity Lottery site warns about this scam and explains all http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/types/types_1322.html

Look for an iphone app that can block calls, I've heard rumors they exist but don't know for sure.

Hi lads! I`m Alex from Dublin and I had 2 calls today from number +1 917-628-2665 Now I know that this is scam about Green Card Lottery, but 8 months ago I didn`t! As a result after 20 minutes conversation by phone from this number I gave them my banc acc. details and they charge 419 Euros for participation in lottery for nex 4 years!!! Few days ado I`ve got 2 e-mails:
one from USAFIS (scamers company), another from "U.S. Department of State", this letter starts from:
Congratulations, you've won!!! Congratulations ! You are among those randomly selected and registered for further consideration in the diversity immigrant program. Selection guarantees that
you will receive a United States Permanent Resident Card(also known as Green Card or Diversity Visa) only if you follow the instructions for further processing.
Is the Diveristy Visa FREE ?
No. There is a big confusion. Only the participation in the Diversity Visa Lottery was free but the winners must pay the visa processing fees.
The fee is used to process your visa related documents and verify your identity.Fees:
Type of Residence Card Status Amount (per person)
United States Permanent Resident Card Granted! - Waiting for payment of processing fee $856
Processing fees Included
Total $856
BLA, BLA, BLA....PLEASE SEND MONEY IN A TWO WEEKS, OR YOU WILL HAVE PROBLEMS...
PEOPLE! DO NOT SEND MONEY TO THEESE BEACHES!!!!! DO NOT TRUST THEM-THIS IS ALL

Hey everyone! Still very puzzling where they have gotten my number from. I am from Germany and jumped on the iphone trend yesterday. I hardly completed the very basic set ups for the i4 when I received a call this morning at 3am (New York time). But i also spent a few weeks in the states lately. Might have been a hotel, or airline database. Has anyone already found a relief-strategy??? And does it eventually stop?
| rachid 2011-02-02 18:05:20 Unknown |

4 calls today. No message. I'm from Austria and thought it might be a friend who's staying in NY at the moment. I also tried to call back but the phone was just ringing. Some friends put my name and phone number in an online form the other day...I guess that's the clue.
| Christina 2011-02-01 19:52:11 Unknown |
This number is calling at 3am and 12n almost everyday California time. No messages at all and when I try to call the number back it just rings.
I believe it may be a prepaid calling card hub number.
