Someone from Generational Equity has called 2 times and asked for the president of the company by name.  This person does leave a name and number to return his call, but does not leave his company name (it shows up in caller ID) or the nature of his call.  We do not return calls if there is no detailed information regarding the reason for the call.  With all of the phone scams happening these days just remember if they don't leave information as to why they are calling and/or their company name, these types of calls are usually telemarketers or scammers.

There is some interesting honest info at this link from employees and also probably some dishonest info from employees. Read especially the May 11, 2011, review that tells Generational Equity's  modus operandi via the cold calls.

What a great idea for a company policy!

"If the person on the other end won't identify themselves or disclose their intentions, put 'em on hold"

It's remarkable how you typically get further with a cold call if you concisely explain why you're calling and you don't act guarded / dodgy - many cold callers don't realize this.

It's simple.  If you won't respect my request to stop calling me, I won't respect your request for a telephone conversation.

Employee turnover at this place must be astronomical.  For 4 years, I've received a call from a different person every 2-3 months.

Larry:
Is this your job at Generational Equity to post these bogus positive reviews on here?
I doubt that anyone is fooled.
Our company policy is that anyone who calls our company and askes for the company president without telling the nature of the call is put on hold until they finally hang up.
Fraudsters. BEWARE!

Actually, when an employee of Generational Equity such as yourself writes a post like you did, you should be a bit less obvious.
No one is fooled.
Generatioan Equity is a shyster/fraud.

"Something funny" is accurate when the cold caller isn't forthcoming with his/her intentions.  All of you cold callers out there need to remember a few things:

- the person you're calling didn't ask you to call them
- the person you're calling has other responsibilities
- the person you're calling probably isn't interested in what you're offering
- the person you're calling wants you to get to the point

Great attempt!  Here are some tips for your next post:

- Polish your grammar -- a spellchecker might help.
- The INC 500/5000 is a leadgen scam.  It undermines your credibility if you point to this as a measure of success.
- 1,000% growth in 3 years isn't tough when you start from nothing.
- Dow Jones will write articles for hire, just like most other publication / research houses.
- Berating someone who you cold called is not a good way to impress others who you cold call in the future.
- When you cold call someone, you have about 10 seconds to get to the point.  The woman from your company who just cold called me failed this test.

I actually found Rick and his company to be very professional and we had a great discussion about future business and some opportunities that were coming down the pike over the next couple of years for companies in my industry. And I am glad he didn't leave the details of what he wanted to discuss on our general voicemail. Because its not something I would want my assistant to know about. If you are a business owner always remember, just because someone isn't calling to buy your products or service, doesn't mean they can't bring something of value to the future of your company.

CJ my boy, before you waste your time calling the Attorney General.... For your own sake, so you don't look as stupid as you sound. Please do your homework! You "order takers/Gate keepers" should be demoted to cleaning toilets or something. You ignorantly think that just because someone calls you and doesn't conform to your "line of questioning" that they are not a professional or a legit company. Tkae a look at the numerous accolades this company has acquired. Did your company have over 1,000% growth in the last 3 years like Rick's Did? I can answer that....NO! Was your company listed 195th on the Inc. 500? NO again!! Did Dow-Jones choose your company to write an industry News Letter, above all the other comapnies in your industry, like they did Rick's company? Most certainly not! And I would dare say, your company didn't win "Deal of the year" last year out of 2000 companies either. Of course they didn't! Mostly due to the fact that YOU were answering the phone and trying to play Mr. Business owner. Your lucky you still have a job.

It sounds like Bob & Chet didn't do their home work. Because I actually called Rick back, he told me exactly why he had called and we had a very intelligent conversation. And indeed they did have business scheduled in Atlanta, and I was very interested in what he had to say. In fact, I plan on meeting with Rick's company next time they come up my way on business. As a business owner, personally I think it would be foolish for any owner not to meet with them.

I have a 20 yr. old HVAC company in the south. We received the same call, but upon returning Rick's call I found that his company did have legitimate business in our city and they we're indeed looking to meet with a company in our industry. I'm glad thats all he told my assistant on his initial call due to the confidentiality of the business they had coming up in our area. The nature of their business and the discussions we had, was not something I would have wanted my assistant or employees to know that I was contemplating in the near future. As I asked probing questions, Rick was very professional and thorough in answering every question and even took me directly to their website while we talked. I discovered that indeed they have been ranked on Thompson-Reuters the last two years in a row, as the #1 company in their industry in all of North America. And they offer a very valuable service to small and mid-size privately held companies like mine and at no cost I might add. I met personally with one of their Managing Directors regarding the future direction of my company and learned about many options and opportunities that otherwise, I would have never known existed.
As another person stated on a previous post. Its unfortunate that we as business owners assume that if someone is quote "cold calling" that they are not a legitimate company and they don't have something of value to offer. I would encourage any business owner to first of all, visit their website,  www.genequityco.com (and don't allow the word Equity to throw ya) They are not an investment or financial services company). And they don't have anything for sale. They are THE leader in Merger's & Acquisitions of small to mid-size company's. And they are willing to sit down with owner's at no cost or obligation and help them determine when may be the best time & the most profitable method for transitioning their company at some point. I found they actually have a pretty impressive track record and they get results. If you got an initial phone call and didn't give it a fair shake, I highly recommend you call Rick back and hear him out without pre-judging the call as bogus. I believe you'll be glad you did. I certainly am glad I did. They are also listed on Inc 500  http://www.inc.com/inc5000/2009/company-profile.html?id=200901950

This guy called my buisness with the same story! This is so funny. He was like "I'll be flying in from dallas and need your company to help with a big project of mine". He refused to talk about anything in detail. I asked him if he was actually a guy from texas probing for oil well investors so at least I got a little jab in. He was like "I'm in a conference let me take this in my office" and the phone went silent for a moment. He prob just stayed in the same chair during that downtime and picked it back up "okay i'm in my office now". Rick Pope if you read this I bet you get no girls living a life of being who you really aren't!

Had a voicemail left on my office phone.  Said his name was Rick Pope and he was calling from his office in Dallas because of some business  he had coming up in **********.  They will be needing a ****** company.  He left his direct line so that my call would get by his assistant and directly to him.  He would discuss the size and scope of the project when I called.

Needless to say, I did not return his call after seeing the other posts.

Thanks

Rick Pope called from his Dallas office asking to speak to the owner by name.  Said he would be in OKC area and needed someone in our area of expertise (a service company).  He was very vague with his answers to my probing questions and he did not want to send any info by fax or email.  Right now he is just doing preliminary research.  Said he works for G&E an M&A firm.  Gave his direct office number to call him back as 972-481-2842.

Thank you for your posts.  They are very helpful in dealing with calls like these.

Rick Pope left a voicemail on our office answering machine. He said he was calling to speak with the owner of our company, which he did know his name so that made me suspicious since he didn't say anyone had referred him or anything like that. We are a paving company.  On the message he said he was calling out of his office in Dallas. That they were having business coming up in the state our company is in. They need a company like ours. Call to get details and the scope of work. I wrote it up for the owner but before giving it to him I looked it up on here just in case. Needless to say it's in the trash now.

Yeah, I got a call from Rick or Rent Pope as well.  He called and left a message at the office I work at.  He was very vague about what his company did and in his original message, didn't even give out his company name.  When I started asking more about his company and if he needed a bid from us (we are a service company), he just said he had a conference call and needed to go.

Very fishy if you ask me.
